Features
Developed using M1 MotoGP technology, the 998cc engine features Bosch injectors that deliver a wide spray angle for increased efficiency. Specially designed finger-follower rocker arms and cam lobes give outstanding high rpm performance – and this EU5 crossplane engine also features a high efficiency lubrication system for optimum performance.
Developed through extensive simulator and on-track testing, new MotoGPinspired carbon fibre winglets create additional downforce for exceptional chassis stability and added front-end feel when braking or cornering.
The YZF-R1 features new radial-mounted Brembo Stylema monobloc front calipers riding on big 320mm rotors for excellent stopping power supported by a 220mm rear disc with a compact floating caliper. High quality braided stainless steel front lines, high-friction pad compound and new Brembo master cylinder complete the package, providing exceptional control and feel.
An updated rider and passenger seat cover texture balances both grip and ease of movement helping the rider feel a better sense of connection and control.
A new KYB front fork is fully redesigned offering excellent response, road feel and front-end performance. Individual adjusters on the right and left fork tubes offer a full range of adjustability including preload, high- and low-speed compression and rebound adjustments for precise damping control.
The YZF-R1 also comes equipped with a Quick Shift System that gives faster gear changing. This system instantly cancels drive torque when an upshift is detected - enabling full throttle clutchless upshifts for outstanding acceleration through the close ratio 6-speed transmission.
The 6-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) consists of a gyro sensor (angular velocity sensor) that constantly measures machine pitch, roll and yaw, and a G-sensor (accelerometer) that measures acceleration in the forward-backward, up-down and right-left directions. This technology makes possible the class-leading array of rider aids includes lean sensitive Traction Control System (TCS), Slide Control System (SCS) as well as a front wheel lift control system (LIF) and Brake Control system (BC).
Technology is transforming the way we ride, and the YZF-R1 features no fewer than seven electronic control systems. Featuring two modes, the Brake Control (BC) system analyses data such as lean angle and slipping acceleration and modulates hydraulic brake pressure to prevent wheel lock ups.
The Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) is activated by a high-tech twist grip assembly that gives a natural feeling for precise control. Featuring a spring slider and gear that give a smooth and progressive feel the lightweight ride-by-wire APSG (Accelerator Position Sensor Grip) twist grip gives instant throttle response.
LED headlights are both lightweight and compact allowing for a more streamlined design of the front cowling with excellent visibility. The lights deliver a broad spread of illumination. LED front turn signals are integrated into the mirrors for improved aerodynamics while the LED taillight is stylish and highly visible.
