The original Revstar guitars launched in 2015—our first new electric guitar series in more than a decade. A completely refreshed line-up was introduced in 2022. The Revstar style is inspired by café racer motorcycles—stripped-down performance machines that were customized to reflect the personality of their riders. Revstar balances Japanese innovation and traditional artisanship. Modern features enhance playability, versatility, and tone, while the design references classic Yamaha electric guitars going back to 1966. Used in place of a signature in Japan, the hanko stamp on every Revstar guitar is our seal of approval. Element and Standard models feature the “Revstar” hanko, while the stamp on Professional models signifies “Made in Japan.”
Our Acoustic Design process uses advanced measurement, analysis, and modelling tools to design guitar bodies that offer clear, powerful tone and maximum resonance. Revstar Standard guitars feature chambered bodies designed to sculpt tone and reduce weight, with carbon reinforcement in the neck to improve vibration transfer.
With the same 5-way switching as Revstar Professional, the subtle phase shift on positions 2 and 4 offers a fresh take on classic “in-between” sounds.
The push/pull Tone control activates a passive boost with an effect similar to overwound pickups—darker highs, increased mids and lows, and an aggressive character.
RSS20 and RSS20L feature humbuckers, and RSS02T offers P90-style single-coils. All pickups are custom designed by Yamaha and use Alnico V magnets for powerful tone.
The RSS20L is available in two finishes
6 Café racer inspired finishes (NB. Left-handed version RSS20L is available in 4 Café racer inspired finishes); Chambered maple and mahogany body; Carbon-reinforced 3-piece mahogany neck; 2 Alnico V humbucking pickups (NB. RSS02T offers 2 P30-style pickups); 5-Position pickup selector; Passive Focus Switch; Deluxe gig bag included.
